Ponnani Taluk Muslim Orphanage Association(PTMOA)was founded in 1984. Late reverent K V Usthad koottanad was the founder president of PTMOA and Darul HIdaya establishments.Darul Hidaya Orphanage Higher Secondary (DHOHSS), is a well reputed school, located in Pookkarathara, Edappal Panchayath, Malappuram District, Kerala. The school was the realisation of the dream of the trust members of PTMOA,under the patronage of late reverent K. V. Muhammed Musliyar Koottanad(president),late Mr.K. V. Muhammed Haji Ayilakkad (Treasurer) and Mr.P. V. Muhammed Moulavi (Secretary).

As a result of the sincere efforts and initiative of our former minister for education ,Hon E. T Mohammed Basheer,the school was established on 20th June 1995, with a stength of 40 students .The institution was under the guidance of late reverent K. V. Muhammed Musliyar Koottanad and soon became a refuge for a large number of students of Edappal Panchayath, who had to walk miles and miles for their high school education. It was a crucial period when a large number of students abandoned their high school education as there were no high schools in their vicinity. Within no time this institution became the alma mater for many. This institution was upgraded as Higher Secondary School in the year 1998. The school follows Kerala State syllabus. It has a good track record on results in public examinations.

The school now caters to the educational needs of two thousand five hundred students. After the demise of reverent K. V. Muhammed Musliyar Koottanad, late reverent Sayyid Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal became the president .After his demise the captainship of the cruise was taken over by Mr.K. V. Muhammed Haji, Ayilakkad who passed away in 2019. Currently the school is managed by reverent Panakkad Sayyid Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal. Mr.P. V. Muhammed Moulavi is omnipresent in all reforms and activities of this Institution. We are always top ranked both in curricular and co-curricular activities. We have shown our strength in Sub-district, District and State level competitions. Our title as "The Sub-District Champion” in the “Sub-District Kalolsavam” for the last 21 years still remains unquestioned. There are also numerous notable performances in District, State and National level under our belt.

Under the guidance of a group of talented pool of faculties, we can proudly say that we have been instrumental in the social economic and cultural upliftment of the society for the last 25 years. Our ceaseless effort to mould an educationally and culturally enriched society has been successful and we have proved ourselves that 'a good example is the best sermon'.
